The 34th edition of the Lew-port Niagara Pioneer Soccer Alumni Game was a barn-burner from the start.
The weather was cool and overcast, perfect soccer weather, and was played in a modified 6v6 format for the first time ever.
While disappointed not to have an 11v11 turnout, the soccer was impressive, action-packed and great fun to watch.
The winning goal was scored by Zach Westadt in the final seconds of the match. That goal gave the Odds team a 9-8 victory.
It was a back-and-forth contest throughout the match.
The Odds got goals from first-time game participants Isaac Swenson and Josh Smith (3), Austin Crossley (4), and the winner from Westadt.
The Evens saw goals from Robert Minicucci (3), Rick Sweeney (2), Jake Westadt (2), and Paul Waterstrat.
With the small field format, Keepers Libby Broderick and Brian Elniski saw constant action and each faced over 25 shots.
Player of the match honors went to Mike Inskeep.
As the game's oldest participant, referee Kelly Besaw was awarded the 2024 Depends MVP.
Good times and laughs were enjoyed by all after the game.
